Plant / Product Features:Fine Fescue species include creeping red, chewings, hard, and sheep fescue. All fine-leaf fescues are bunch-type grasses except creeping red fescue which is rhizomatous. A fine fescue lawn seed mix will often include a mixture of these fine fescue species.
Fine fescues are some of the most fine-textured turfgrasses available. Due to their superb shade tolerance and ability to recuperate from stresses, fine fescues are often mixed with tall fescue to enhance performance in shady areas.
Fine fescues persist well under conditions of low fertility and drought. Whilst fine fescue germinates quickly, it is quite slow to tiller and mature and may be best laid as turf.
Landscaping Uses:Naturalized areas of infrequently mown fine fescue provide wispy mounds of turf as an aesthetic, low maintenance, low cost, and eco-friendly lawn option. Alternatively, well-maintained and closely mown fine fescue can produce an attractive, high quality, fine turf surface for low wear areas. Fine fescue is an excellent option where heavy shade is a problem.
