True flowers are insignificant but the surrounding bracts are brilliantly coloured often changing colour or shade as they age. Essentially a scrambling shrub producing long canes armed with woody thorns as an aid for climbing. Does best in warm climates.

Landscaping Uses:
Valued for glorious flamboyant display of blooms and their ability to quickly cover a large area of either ground or wall. With regular pruning can be successfully grown in large containers. Use for trellises, arbors and pergolas.
